BAR HARBOR – Lawrence “Larry” F. Abbott Jr., 70, died Aug. 13, 2009. Larry was born Oct. 3, 1938, in Bar Harbor, the son of Lawrence F. and Esther (Sharp) Sr. He graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1956 and entered the U.S. Army. He attended Northeast University and graduated from Boston College. After his service in the U.S. Army, Larry married Jean (Burr), who predeceased him in 1977. Larry worked in construction for DeCenzo and MacQuinn for many years. He was also employed as highway superintendent for the town of Bar Harbor. He was a member of Bar Harbor Masonic Lodge No. 185, Scottish Rite Bodies, Anah Shrine, Anah Flag Unit and also served as district deputy for the 21st district. Larry is survived by two sons, Larry Abbott III of West Tremont, and Robert Abbott and his wife, Diana, of Bar Harbor; and grandchildren, Codie, Dakota, Cameron Abbott and Justin Sprague. Lawrence will also be sadly missed by his beloved best friend and confidant, Sandra Paine. Larry was a traveler and was always ready to explore new and exciting places with Sandra, his traveling companion for 22 wonderful years. Together they enjoyed numerous cruises to exotic locations, exploring and experiencing the many different cultures. Especially memorable were the many visits to historical museums, art galleries and restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada. Funeral and Masonic graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Hillside Cemetery, Hulls Cove.
