BREWER – Jessie B. Shaw, 100, wife of the late Yale E. Shaw who died in 1992, died Aug. 15, 2009, at her home. She was born Dec. 27, 1908, in New York City, daughter of John and Adelaide (O’Toole) McCarten. Jessie had been the owner and operator of The Fashion Shop, Mars Hills, for 17 years. After the sale of her store, she moved to Brewer. Jessie was an avid reader, particularly interested in history, and enjoyed tole painting. Surviving are two daughters, Leah S. Clayton and her husband, K. Bryce, of Eustis, and Audrey Robertson and her husband, Donald, of Napa, Calif.; three grandchildren, Carla J. Lizana, Tom J. Robertson and Lisa K. Cisneros; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Jack McCarten. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 4-5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Kings Grove Cemetery, Mars Hill, with Sue Brown, pastor of the Eastern Mars Hill United Methodist churches, officiating.
