MOUNT DESERT and DEMAREST, N.J. – Barbara P. (Lynch) Orlando, passed away Aug. 14, 2009, surrounded by her family at a Bangor hospital, after a long illness. She was born in Westchester, N.Y., the daughter of Joseph and Mathilde (Doring) Lynch. Barbara was a graduate of Columbia University School of Nursing, New York City, and practiced nursing in a variety of nursing positions including public and school health, industrial nursing, as a nursing supervisor and most recently as a staff nurse at Acadia Hospital, Bangor. She and Charles relocated to Mount Desert Island after many years in Demarest, N.J., where she was an active volunteer in the PTA, Girl Scouts, community wellness, parish council, Bergen County Republican Party and as president of the community hospital auxiliary. On Mount Desert Island, she continued to volunteer at Southwest Harbor Library, Arcady Music Festival and served on the advisory board of MDI Nurses Association. An avid reader, she also loved bridge, sewing, hiking and international travel. She was the beloved wife of Charles; devoted and loving mother of Elizabeth Zagorski and her husband, Michael, Alison Goerg and her husband, Mark, and Charles III; and adored grandmother of Nicholas, Alexandra, Victoria, Nenagh and Francesca. At her request, services will be private.
