FORT KENT – Avenna Charette, 102, died Aug. 23, 2009, at an Eagle Lake health care facility five days shy of his 103rd birthday. He was born Aug. 27, 1906, in Fort Kent, the son of Paul and Alice (Bard) Charette. Avenna was a former Maine guide and retired owner of Top Most Dairy Farm of Fort Kent, which he managed for 19 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Oliva (Saucier) Charette, in 1995; one son, Elmer Charette, in 1997; as well as 11 brothers and sisters. He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Louella Charette; three grandchildren, Robert, Christine and Bonnie; two great-grandchildren, Sara and Megan; his brother, Alberic Charette of Madawaska; one sister, Azelie Anderske of Avon, Conn.; his faithful godson, Gary Laferriere and his family of Bristol, Conn.; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until the time of services Friday at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Committal services will be held at a later date at the parish cemetery.
