SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Julia “Jules” Guhr Jenkins, 72, passed away Aug. 24, 2009, surrounded by her family and friends, in Southwest Harbor. She was born Aug. 24, 1937, in Winnetka, Ill., daughter of Robert Carl and Elaine (Jones) Guhr. Jules graduated from Lawrence College, Appleton, Wis., in 1959. She enjoyed cruising the coast of Maine with her husband and friends. She was an avid gardener, quilter and Creative Memories scrapbooker. Jules enjoyed running, cross-country skiing, traveling with her husband and friends, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Manset Union Church, Pine Tree Quilters Guild, a founding member of Rhoades Park and an active member of Bass Harbor Yacht Club. Jules is survived by her beloved husband, William W. Jenkins Jr. of Southwest Harbor; two sons, Peter W. Jenkins of Riverside, Conn., and William R. Jenkins and his wife, Cheryl Cluley, of Seattle; one daughter, Sheila J. Havey and her husband, Todd M., of Topsham; two brothers-in-law, Tim Jenkins and wife, Jane Jenkins, of Somesville and Naples, Fla., and Don Jenkins of Bronxville, N.Y.; and grandchildren, Ryan Havey, Erin Havey, Keenan Jenkins and Avery Jenkins. Friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Manset Union Church with Pastor Chuck Ives officiating.
