AMHERST and BANGOR – Duane Oscar Stevenson, 71, died Aug. 26, 2009, in Bangor. He was born Nov. 13, 1937, in Hermon, son of Oscar Urban and Omer (Rowe) Stevenson. Duane was a graduate of Bangor High School and served in the Army National Guard. He was a Bangor firefighter for 20 years, retiring in 1986. Duane enjoyed gardening, crafts and woodworking, and was an avid coin collector. Surviving are his wife, Dianne E. (Light) Stevenson of Amherst; three children, Duane A. Stevenson of Lamoine, Laurie A. Rice and husband, Craig W., of Amherst, and Gene M. Stevenson of Great Pond; five grandchildren, Craig and his wife, Barbara, Aric, Crystal, Joel and his wife, Angelina, and Cole; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Laverna Young of Corea and Lucretia Howard of Saco; one brother, Sewell Stevenson of Columbia Falls; several nieces, nephews and many special friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Freeland and Vaughn. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
