SOUTH PORTLAND and VAN BUREN – Irene (Cyr) Sirois, 93, died peacefully Aug. 25, 2009, at South Portland Nursing Home. She was born Feb. 8, 1916, in Caribou, the daughter of John G. and Josephine (Lavoie). She and her husband, Albert Sirois, lived their entire married lives in Van Buren, where they worked and raised their family. Irene graduated from Caribou High School and was a communicant at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. She was a former member of Evangeline Circle, Daughters of Isabella and Van Buren Lioness Club. Irene is survived by two daughters, Sandra Castonguay of Old Orchard Beach, and Barbara Levine and her husband, Stephen, of Framingham, Mass.; her son, Gary Sirois and his wife, Debbie, of Yarmouth; one half brother, John Cyr of Van Buren; two half sisters, Blanche Leggie of Massachusetts and Lorina Norton of Oregon; and six grandchildren, Mark Castonguay of Topsham, Lisa Casper and her husband, Jim, of Windham, Nicole Jones and her husband, Brian, of Framingham, Mass., Hali Fortin and her husband, Matthew, of South Portland, and Krista and Elise Sirois of Yarmouth. She also leaves five beautiful great-grandchildren, Todd and Sara Casper, Makenzie and Addison Jones, and Abram Fortin. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert L. Sirois; four brothers, Leo, Louis, Silvio and Lawrence; two sisters, Laurette Martin and Alma Pelletier; and one half brother, Ferdinand Cyr.
