VAN BUREN – Merilda T. Cyr, 81, died Aug. 28, 2009, at a Van Buren health care facility. She was born April 17, 1928, in Hamlin, the daughter of Leonard and Marie (Tardif) Thibodeau. She was a former member of Van Buren Lioness Club, Gateway Snowmobile Club and Club 17 at Van Buren cove of Long Lake. She was also a member of Van Buren Women’s Bowling League for many years. She is survived by four sons, Robert Cyr and his wife, Marianne, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Gary “Pit” Cyr, Donald Cyr and his wife, Donna, and Alan Cyr and his wife, Lisa, all of Van Buren; two daughters, Marlene Tench of St. Petersburg Beach, Fla., and Carol Perreault and her husband, Gerard, of Van Buren; 10 grandchildren, Mitchell, Caleb, Kristin, Dominique, Dustin and Jordan Cyr, Andrew and Dylan Taylor, Bryan and Christopher Tench; and two sisters, Lorraine Deschenes of Ste. Anne, New Brunswick, and Leontine Mertz of Bay City, Texas. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Louis Cyr Jr., in 2005; an infant daughter, Barbara; and a brother, Chanel Thibodeau. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday at Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Committal service and interment will be at the parish cemetery.
