ETNA and BANGOR – Clarissa T. Bickford, 93, died Sept. 1, 2009, at her son’s home in Etna after a long illness. She was born Jan. 23, 1916, in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of Robert D. and Mary Jane (Bryden) Thompson. Clarissa’s parents emigrated from Scotland in 1926. Prior to her retirement in 1981 she had worked at the University of Maine, Orono. Clarissa was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her children, Ann B. Hall and husband, Charles, of Teaticket, Mass., Jean B. Durham and husband, James, of Zephyrhills, Fla., Robert L. Bickford and wife, Joan, of Wiscasset and David R. Bickford and wife, Ruby, of Etna; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Randolph L. Bickford in 1971; and by a brother, Robert M. Thompson. Friends may call 12:30-1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone, pastor of Advent Christian Church, Bangor, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, after the service. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the interment.
