ORRINGTON – Pauline (Bowden) Otis, 89, beloved wife of 63 years to Norman Otis, died Sept. 3, 2009, with her husband and family surrounding her at their home as she wished. She was born July 24, 1920, in Orrington, daughter of Sumner J. and Nellie F. (Rogers) Bowden. She graduated from Brewer High School and Eastern Academy, worked as a hairdresser in local salons and retired in 1976 from Bangor Mental Health, after 20 years of service. She was a former member of the Nature Club and Veazie Senior Citizens. Pauline found her greatest joys traveling with her husband to every state in the country and spending time with her family, cousins and friends. She had many long lasting friendships. Pauline dearly loved her cat, Skeeter. She loved knitting and crocheting and never turned down a game of cards. Pauline and Norman enjoyed when their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren got together for pizza, bingo and Bunko. Throughout her illness she never complained. Pauline was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Surviving, in addition to her husband of Orrington, are their three children, Brenda Kent and her husband, George, of Bangor, Carroll Otis and significant other, Kelly Stevens, of Dixmont, and Rosetta Thomas and husband, Rhea, of Kenduskeag; grandchildren, Patricia Campbell and husband, Steve, of Brewer, Jennifer Kent of Bangor, Alan Thomas and significant other, Michelle Twaddel, of Corinth, Robert Otis of Greenbush, and Spc. Nicholas Otis, U.S. Army at Fort Riley, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Patrick Campbell of Brewer; Robert and Phyllis Jenkins of Cheyenne, Wyo. Robert was raised with Pauline and thought of him as a brother. She was predeceased by her brother, Alton S. Bowden. Pauline loved and respected Dr. Roy Corbin and Dr. Elizabeth Weiss. Relatives and friends are invited to call 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 7. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Orrington. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
