PRESQUE ISLE and CARIBOU – Raymond E. “Bud” Day went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sept. 2, 2009, surrounded by his family and friends at The Aroostook Medical Center, after a long illness. He was born in Caribou, the son of Raymond and Shirley (London) Day. He attended schools in Presque Isle and graduated from David Prouty High School, Spencer, Mass. Raymond worked at Aroostook State Farms until entering the U.S. Air Force and serving four years as a radar repairman. He and his wife, Evelyn, returned to Aroostook County in 1961. After four years of employment as an electrician at Birds Eye, Caribou, Raymond began his civil service career with the U.S. Air Force, 42nd Civil Engineering Squadron, first working at Caswell and then Loring Air Force Base. He retired in 1994 with 30 years of service. For the next five years, he was employed through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. All of his life, Raymond was an avid reader, Louis L’amour and Zane Grey were among his favorite authors. He liked hunting and just being in the great outdoors. He enjoyed family gatherings, walking, spending time with his pet Sheltie and visiting with friends at the mall. He was a member of National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association – NARFE; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers – IBEW; and Seniority. He attended Caribou Assembly of God for more than 30 years, until he moved to Presque Isle and became a member of Family Christian Center. He was a quiet man whose life spoke volumes to those that knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Evelyn (Churchill) Day; three daughters, Debbie Fowler and husband, Dana, of Woodland, Sheri Ciszewski and husband, Perry, of Caribou, and Kelly Day of Presque Isle; five grandchildren, Adam, Bryan and Caitlin Fowler of Woodland, Andrew Ciszewski and his wife, Jessica (Burden), of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Stefan Ciszewski of Caribou; a brother, Wayne Day and his wife, Pat, of Spencer, Mass.; a sister, Sharon LeTendre of Largo, Fla.; a friend and cousin, Adrenne Beckwith of Presque Isle; several in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Family Christian Center, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Gail Bellamy officiating. Interment will be at Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Caribou.
