RANDOLPH – Doris Marie (Preble) Vigue, 95, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, with family by her side at her home. It was in this same home where she was born July 29, 1914, to Wilbur and Ruth (Hathaway) Preble. Graduating from Gardiner High School in 1932, she later went on to graduate from Gates Business School, Augusta. It was no coincidence that March 19, 1938, when she married Edward A. Vigue, it was in the same house where she lived her entire life. Doris was a bookkeeper at Augusta Lumber Co., and also worked at The National Bank of Gardiner for many years. Just 4 years old when the Boston Red Sox won the World Series in 1918, Doris waited 86 long years to see the Sox break the curse and win again in 2004. During that season, she traveled to Fenway Park with her son, Rick and his family, where she was interviewed live on NESN as that afternoon’s fan of the game. She truly loved her camp on Lake Medomak, Washington, where she spent countless summers. She thoroughly enjoyed taking her grandchildren swimming and boating, playing games and leaving her family with a lifetime of memories. She also enjoyed many winters with her husband at a seasonal home in Jupiter, Fla. Doris also enjoyed being an active member of Randolph United Methodist Church, as well as Gardiner Senior Citizens for many years. She is survived by her three children, Janice V. Gould of Randolph, Ronald P. Vigue and wife, Rosalie, of Gardiner and Richard E. Vigue and wife, Rebecca, of Hampden; five grandchildren, Laurie (Gould) Clary of Randolph, Terry Gould and wife, Karen, of Sanford, Linda (Gould) Kempton and husband, Chad, of Randolph, Ryan J. Vigue of Boston and Kathryn A. Vigue of Portland; and five great-grandchildren, Gregory Clary, Sarah and Katherine Gould, and Maria and Nadia Kempton. She was predeceased by her husband, parents; and son-in-law, Richard K. Gould. The family thanks the many friends and individuals who have supported Doris throughout the past few months. Relatives and friends are invited to call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Randolph United Methodist Church, 16 Asbury St., Randolph. The family invites friends to join them for conversation and refreshments immediately after her funeral. Burial services will be held at King’s Mills Cemetery, Whitefield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the sanctuary floor fund of Randolph United Methodist Church, 16 Asbury St., Randolph, ME 04346. “Though we miss you, we know you’re near. For your love lives on in all of us, you will always be here.”
