BANGOR – Thelma Jeanette (D’Amboise) Flanagan, 87, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, in Brewer, with her family by her side. To the end, she was very grateful for the excellent care she received from Brewer Rehab & Living Center. Thelma was born Dec. 1, 1921, at her home in Brewer, the daughter of Arthur and Roseanna (Bonnville) D’Amboise. She was a 1939 graduate of Brewer High School. She married John “Toby” Charles Flanagan, Aug. 31, 1940, at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church and had been a communicant of St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. Thelma was generous with her time and her door was always open to the children of her neighborhood. She discovered while in her 70s that she had a gift for painting and many of her delightful pieces still brighten the walls of family and friends. Thelma is survived by five children and their families, Robert V. Flanagan, Pamela A. Flanagan and her husband, Jeffrey Howard, Cheryl L. Field and her husband, Robert Field, Heidi S. Flanagan and her husband, Peter Kendall, and Tobi Marie Flanagan; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John. Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor. Burial will be immediately afterward at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
