ATHENS – Elizabeth L. Cobb, 89, passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Redington Fairview General Hospital, Skowhegan. She was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Athens, the daughter of Leon C. and Clara (Isaakson) Lancaster. She graduated from Athens Academy, Class of 1938. She married Erland H. Cobb, Oct. 26, 1940, in Skowhegan; he died in 2007. She owned and operated a boarding home in her home for 23 years. She was also a homemaker and spent many years showing her beloved ponies with her husband, Erland, taking numerous awards at state fairs. She was a trustee of Somerset Academy and trustee of the Eaton Foundation. Liz loved animals, and was a “grammy” to many, many children. She enjoyed cooking and will always be remembered for her cinnamon rolls. Erland even taught Liz how to fly a Tri-Pacer airplane. She never received her pilot’s license, but she could fly well. Liz is survived by one sister, Olive Foster of Cornville; one brother, Raymond Lancaster and his wife, Emerald, of Norridgewock; goddaughter and niece, Linda (Ricker) Grimaldi Raymond of Hampton, N.H.; great-niece, Yvonne Johnston of Hermon; four generations of nieces, nephews and cousins; and close friend, Marjorie Scott of Athens. She was predeceased by her parents; one brother, Kenneth Lancaster; and three sisters, Doris Hartley, Marion Ricker and Althea Savage. The family thanks HealthReach Hospice and Redington Fairview General Hospital for the wonderful care that they gave Liz. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Mount Rest Cemetery, Athens, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. Donations may be made in Liz’s memory to Somerset Humane Society, P.O.
