PROSPECT – Peter D. Quigley, 66, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at a Bangor hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born April 1, 1943, in Damariscotta, the son of Harold and Dorothy (Lane) Quigley. Peter attended Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, earning his master electrician’s license. Peter worked for 37 years at Bucksport Paper Mill. He retired from International Paper in 2003. He was a master electrician and planner in the Electrical and Instrument Department. He was very involved with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1777. He held various positions within the local including 10 years as president and three years as vice president. He was a very strong advocate for the union. Even after he no longer held an office, he was often called upon for advice and council. Because of his union guidance and knowledge he earned great respect from all at the Bucksport mill. His clever wit and great sense of humor was well known by his co-workers. He had a great love of animals and kept many bird feeders filled for his feathered friends. Peter also enjoyed four-wheeling, fishing, cars and maintaining his six acre field on a regular basis. Peter is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife of 25 years, Mary “Nancy” Quigley; his daughter, Lisa Quigley of Newburgh; sons, Peter Quigley Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Lexington, S.C., Michael Robertson and wife, Laurie, of Chelsea, Robert Robertson and wife, Margaret, of Lake Orion, Mich., and James Robertson and wife, Amy, of West Gardiner; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Foley; two brothers, Mark Quigley and wife, Kristina, and Donald Quigley and wife, Glenna; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. Family and friends will gather for visitation 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Route 1A, Prospect, with Pastor Cliff Gall officiating. A celebration of Peter’s life will be held immediately after the graveside service at Peter’s home, 649 Muskrat Farm Road, Prospect. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Peter’s memory may be made to Bucksport Animal Shelter, P.O. Box C-1, Bucksport, ME 04416.
