SILVER RIDGE – Clara Deloris (Beattie) Mayo, 78, went to be with our Lord Sept. 29, 2009. The youngest of nine children, Clara was born March 7, 1931, to Brad and Lena (Grant) Beattie. Hers was not an easy childhood. Her mother passed away of cancer when she was just one year old, and her father was killed by a milk truck two years later. She grew up and spent the remainder of her childhood on the Beattie farm in Patten/Crystal, where she was raised by her two loving bachelor uncles, Ora and Earl Beattie. Clara was married for 61 years to Robert Charles Mayo and resided with him until her passing at his family’s homestead in Silver Ridge. Together they had two children, Wayne Robert and Velma Deloris. Deloris died of a brain tumor when she was just six years of age, and Wayne resides with his wife, Cindy, in Sangerville. For many years Clara was employed by Foster Manufacturing Co., Mattawamkeag, and also worked for Canteen Service, Bangor, while her son attended the University of Maine, Orono. She was a devout Christian and a member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church, East Millinocket. On July 1 of this year, Clara was transported to Boston where she underwent two major surgeries before being returned to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where she could be visited by family. Multiple complications prevented her recovery. In addition to her husband and son, Clara is survived by two grandsons, Shawn of Old Town, along with his wife, Robin, and Kary of Orrington; her sister, Louella Wilcox of Milo, Mo.; six great-grandchildren, Shane, Kayla, Parker, Kaleb, Clara and Ethan; several cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. The family wishes to extend special thanks and appreciation to Clara’s sister, Louella; nephew, Ora Young and his wife, Betty; and neighbors, Ron and Norma Winchenbach, and Joan Allen Thibodeau, for their love and support during this difficult time. Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Patten Pentecostal Church, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Regginal Adams officiating. Interment will be at Silver Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
