BANGOR and PRESQUE ISLE – Dorothy “Dot” Ferland, 81, died Sept. 30, 2009, at a local health care center. She was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Loomis and Emma (Gotreau) Deane. Dot was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School. She earned her degree as a licensed practical nurse and worked at The Aroostook Medical Center for 17 years. She was a loving, caring mother and grandmother, who enjoyed gardening, visiting with her friends and family, dancing and traveling. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Kenneth Ferland of Bangor; her daughter, Lorraine Ferland and her husband, Bob Ross, of Sparks, Md.; two sons, Ralph Ferland and his wife, Susan, of Brewer, and Kip Ferland of Bangor, with whom she lived; a special daughter-in-law, Leanne Ferland and her husband, Joe Perry, of Hermon; six grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kristian, Jonathan, Sarah, Tovah, Justin and Josie; her sister, Ruth Adams of Fort Fairfield; brother, Ralph Deane and his wife, Joan, of Bangor; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Joseph; and her sister, Helen. The Ferland family extends a special thank you to the staff of Westgate Manor who provided outstanding care. A service of remembrance will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Kathy Mecedo officiating. Interment will be at a later date at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Augusta.
