WILBRAHAM, Mass. – Elaine B. (Welts) Gousy, 74, formerly of Cabinet Street, Springfield, Mass., died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, surrounded by her family at Mercy Medical Center, Springfield, Mass., after a courageous battle with cancer. Elaine was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Parkman, a daughter of the late Alston and Elizabeth (Hodgdon) Welts. Elaine graduated from Piscataquis High School. She had resided in Springfield, Mass., most of her life. An avid hard worker, Elaine, owned a restaurant in Eliot and a dairy mart in East Longmeadow, Mass. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed being with her family, gardening, traveling cross-country with her husband, Herve, in their motor home, and was a member of Over Mountain Sam’s in Tennessee. Elaine is survived by her husband of 50 years, Herve H. Gousy; two sons, David A. Soucie and his wife, Karen, of Ashfield, Mass., and John H. Gousy and his wife, Tracy, of Monson, Mass.; three daughters, Wanda Soucie-Murphy and her husband, Michael, of Dallas, Brenda Ann Gonyea and her husband, Joel, of Wilbraham, Mass., and Barbara Williams and her husband, Mark, of Alpharetta, Ga.; a brother, Roger Welts of Greenville; two sisters, Ann Donovan and her husband, Richard, of Belfast, and Jean Durham of Belfast; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours for Elaine will be held 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield, Mass., where a funeral service will begin 4:30 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
