FORT FAIRFIELD – Burton E. Henderson, 62, husband of Carolyn A. (Nightingale) Henderson, passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility, after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 10, 1947, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Lewin and Rowena (Hamilton) Henderson. Burton attended Fort Fairfield schools and married Carolyn A. Nightingale, April 17, 1976. He had been employed in the potato farming industry for many years, working for various farmers in the Fort Fairfield area, including Pollack’s, Durepo Farms and especially Good Farms, where he spent much of his career. He greatly enjoyed fishing and tinkering with automobiles, especially with his brother-in-law and dear friend, Darrell Doody. Burton was predeceased by his father, Lewin Henderson; one sister, Leota Cyr; and one brother-in-law, Darrell Doody. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carolyn Henderson; his mother, Rowena Henderson, both of Fort Fairfield; a stepdaughter, who Burton loved as his own, Laura Ann Pelkey of Caribou; three brothers, Lewin Henderson and his wife, Barbara, of Flint, Mich., Benny Henderson and his wife, Linda, of Cheshire, Conn., and Gary Henderson and his wife, Christine, of Newburgh; three sisters, Vaida Doody of Fort Fairfield, Wanetta Busse and her husband, William, of Crouseville, and Celia Huber and her husband, Howard, of Blackwater, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Erika, Melissa and David; one great-grandchild, Jade; one brother-in-law, Sterling Cyr and his special friend, Shirley Drost, both of Presque Isle; numerous nieces and nephews. In keeping with Burton’s wishes, calling hours and services will be private for the family, however, friends are invited to join the family in fellowship and refreshments 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Henderson to United Parish Church Memorial Fund, care of Joyce Plant, 45 Brunswick Ave., Fort Fairfield, ME 04742. Arrangements are in the care of Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield.
