HOLDEN – Delmar “Del” R. Paine, 75, husband of Joyce (Hersom) Shaw Paine, went to be with his loving Lord Oct. 4, 2009, at his home, after an extended illness. He was born July 21, 1934, in Bangor, the son of Warren and Annie (Strout) Paine. Del was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Bangor and served as an on-call chaplain at Eastern Maine Medical Center for several years. Del was ordained minister of chaplaincy in May 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital Chapel with 50 people in attendance. This was a very important and special event for Del and he was very proud to have finished his course of studies. He enjoyed encouraging, uplifting and praying with the patients and medical staff. Del was employed with Sherman Holmes, DownEast Associates, and also had his own business building and remodeling homes for many years. He retired from Maine Army National Guard and Maine Department of Defense. He was an avid master wood carver and immensely enjoyed getting together each Friday with his carving buddies. Surviving, in addition to his soul mate and beloved wife of nine years, Joyce Paine of Holden, were four stepsons, and their wives, the Rev. David Shaw and Rosalie of Bangor, Daniel Shaw and Sharon of Thomaston, Dana Shaw and Annie of Franklin, and Deane Shaw and Norma of Bangor; eight grandsons, Adam, Timothy, John, Anthony, Jerod, Jason, Jonathan and Daniel; one granddaughter, Charmayne; his stepdaughter-in-law, Diana Pearson; two stepgrandchildren, John and Ashley Pearson; his sister and her husband, Helen and Gordon Caldwell of Winterport; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Phil and Mary Ellen McTigue of Holden. A service of remembrance will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at First Church of the Nazarene, Bangor.
