BREWER and ISLAND FALLS – Reva A. (Spencer) Hollis, 92, passed peacefully Oct. 9, 2009, at a Houlton health care facility. She was born June 14, 1917, in Brewer, the daughter of James and Ula (Adams) Spencer. Reva graduated from Brewer High School in 1934. She worked for Everett Sawyer, O.D.; W.T. Grants Department Store, Bangor; and Emple’s Knitting Mill, Brewer. Reva was an active member of North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her lunches and outings with the “girls,” especially after church on Sundays. She prided herself on doing the crossword puzzles in the Bangor Daily News and reading to “keep her mind sharp,” until her failing vision prevented her from doing these activities. Reva was a smart, witty woman who lived a simple but full life. She will be missed by all. She is survived by two sons, William “Bill” Hollis and his wife, Connie, of Island Falls, and Gary Hollis of Eddington; four granddaughters and their spouses, Heidi and Shawn Rigby of Island Falls, Staci and Hugh Smith of Cumming, Ga., Holly and Jeff Seymour of Eddington, and Heather and Rob Sutherland of Brewer; eight great-grandchildren, Sophia, Marissa, Arianna, Brooke, Alex, Amelia, Gage and Paige; two sisters-in-law, Doris Spencer of Eddington and Lucy Spencer of Tamarac, Fla.; her niece, Deborah Largay; two nephews, James and Forrest Spencer; and many cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her twin sisters, Madelene and Irene Spencer; two brothers, James and Forrest Spencer; her granddaughter, Kristi Hollis; and her childhood and lifelong friend, Verna Matson. A celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Dr. Tracy Reeves, pastor of North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday. Interment will immediately after at North Brewer Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the interment at North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church. Gifts in her memory may be sent to North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church, 31 Main Road, Eddington, ME 04428. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
