BREWER – Donald “Pat” Dore, 87, died Oct. 14, 2009, at Togus VA Medical Center. He was born Feb. 20, 1922, in Orono, the son of William and Ezelle (Oliver) Dore. He loved dancing and officiating the local area school baseball and basketball teams for more than 20 years. He served in the U.S. Army with a rank of sergeant during World War II, with A Company, 52nd Infantry, Battalion 9th Armored Division. He was a former prisoner of war and received a Purple Heart, four Battle Stars, two Presidential Citations and was proud to be the recipient of the Silver Star Honorable Service Medal presented by Gov. John Baldacci. He was post commander of DAV Chapter 6, John F. Kennedy Chapter, 1964-1965; and senior vice commander of VFW Post 1761, Bangor. Also he was a well-known letter carrier in the Bangor post office, 1958-1984. Pat is survived by a daughter, Sandra Seekins and husband, Sonny, of Salt Springs, Fla.; sons, Michael Dore and wife, Cindy, of Eddington, and Brian Dore and wife, Bertha, of Old Town; four grandchildren, Mindy Woods, Scott Dore, Holly Seekins and Andrew Dore; and several great-grandchildren. Special thanks to Sarah Folsom and to all at Togus Home Care Unit who comforted him during the past 16 months. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
