FORT FAIRFIELD – Daniel D. McLaughlin, 81, passed away Saturday evening, Oct. 17, 2009, at a Caribou nursing facility, after an extended illness. He was born Jan. 21, 1928, in Hermon, the son of Andrew and Larla (Lally) McLaughlin. He attended Newburgh schools and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Daniel had been employed in the potato industry for much of his life, by several area farmers, worked for Potato Service, Inc., Presque Isle, for 18 years and also had been a self-employed as a truck driver. Mr. McLaughlin was a member of Fort Fairfield Bethel Baptist Church and a life member of Veterans’ of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Fort Fairfield. Daniel loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed stockcar racing, attending many races throughout the years at Spud’s Speedway, Caribou. He became a resident of Fort Fairfield in 1944. In addition to his parents, Daniel was predeceased by three brothers, William, George and Edward McLaughlin; and two half sisters, Amy and Eva McLaughlin. He is survived by his son, Brian D. McLaughlin of Levant; two brothers, Donald McLaughlin of Bangor and Patrick McLaughlin of Lewiston; one sister, Frances Veinote and her husband, Paul, of Newburgh; two grandchildren, Jacob and Melanie McLaughlin; three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Interment with military honors will take place after the service at Union Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately after the interment service.
