CARMEL – Dr. Charles E. Kimball, D.M.D., 92, passed away Oct. 16, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born March 24, 1917, the son of Elizabeth Brown Kimball and Charles E. Kimball of Dover-Foxcroft. Charles graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1935 and then completed a four-year program at the University of Maine in two years, graduating in 1937. He then attended Harvard Dental School graduating with honors in 1941. In 1941 he opened his dental practice at 27 State St., Bangor, but on Pearl Harbor Day he joined the Army Air Corps and served his country during World War II. After the war he returned to his practice, which he continued until his retirement in 1987. Charles married Ruth Greene of Sangerville in 1942 and they resided in the Bangor area. For many years he and his family also spent summers on Sebec Lake in the cottages that he and his father built in the early 1930s. Throughout his life he was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved nothing more than to sit in the screened in porch of his hunting and fishing camp at Caucomgomoc Lake in the evenings after his days activities in the north Maine woods. On colder days the large fieldstone fireplace became his favorite place to tell old stories of all the happenings in his life fishing and hunting in the area. After retirement Charles and Ruth found a second home in the winter months in Lake Alfred, Fla., at Cypress Greens. Both at his home in Florida and at his home in Carmel, he developed many warm and endearing friendships that became nothing short of an extended family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Ruth in 1995. He was also predeceased by his sister, Mary Kimball; and his brother, Frederick. Charles is survived by his four children, Claire Seeley and husband, Lindsey, of Orrington, Charlie Kimball and wife, Pat, of Hermon, Catherine Crabtree and husband, Russell, of Guilford and Curtis Kimball and wife, Denise, of Hermon; 10 grandchildren, whom he dearly loved, Brent, Scott, Bryan and Dana Seeley, Charles Kimball and Melanie Seymour, Jeremy Moody and Sarah Willey, and Denise and Michelle Kimball; plus 13 great-grandchildren. A service of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson officiating.
