A longtime roller rink that has been home to birthday parties and celebrations in Caribou for more than half a century is for sale.
Melody Roller Rink hit the market late last week for $595,000.
Ken and Elsie Doody, a husband and wife and former competitive dance skaters, opened the 9,500-square-foot facility in 1964.
Their son, David Doody, has run the rink for the last decade. Over the years, it has hosted fundraisers, roller derbies, field trips and served as a gathering place for locals.
“I think the best thing that’s happened is that the rink provided an outlet for everybody. It’s something to do and it keeps them busy,” Ken Doody told The County in 2015.
David Doody did not respond to questions about the decision to put the property up for sale.
The listing, by NextHome Discover, advertises the facility for its potential uses other than as a roller rink.
“Imagine a vehicle dealership or showroom, warehouse or distribution space, indoor recreation center, event venue, fitness facility, restaurant, retail destination, or a creative combination of uses,” the listing reads.
The roller rink closed for the season on May 30. Outside of the rink space, the building has two bathrooms, a private office, a concession and snack area, gaming space and a skate-rental room.
It will “require improvements,” the listing says.
