HOULTON – Robert Rush, 88, died Oct. 18, 2009, with his family by his side, at his home. He was born Nov. 10, 1920, in Houlton, the youngest child of James M. and Matilda (McLaughlin) Rush. He attended Hodgdon and Houlton schools, graduating from Houlton High School in 1939. He farmed with his brother, James, for 40 years. In 1974 he was elected clerk of courts in Houlton and served in that position until his retirement in 1990. For many years, he and his late wife, Anne (Doherty), were very active in the Maine Democratic Party. He is survived by 10 children: daughters, Lucy Strawbridge of Goffstown, N.H., Jane Doggett and her husband, Roger, Barbara Rush and her husband, Greg Crawford, all of Seattle, Gwen Dow and Julie Weber and her husband, William, of Houlton; sons, Daniel Rush and his wife, Diana, of Kennebunk, Robert Rush and his wife, Gloria, of Las Vegas, Christopher and his wife, Martha, of Lake Worth, Fla., Matthew Rush and his wife, Alane, and Stephen Rush and his wife, Wanita, all of Houlton; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends may call 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Houlton, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Father David Raymond, celebrant. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, County Road.
