OKLAHOMA CITY – Virgil L. Amore, 95, passed away Oct. 19, 2009, at Integrity Hospice House. He was born Jan. 21, 1914, in Pleasant Valley, Ohio, to Roy and Mamie (Rivers) Amore. Virgil attended local schools. During the Depression, he worked as a coal miner, a cowboy, rode in rodeos and worked as a farm hand. In 1937 he married Viola Sullivan and had six children. During World War II, he worked in an acid plant. In 1990 he married Dorthea Taylor and they made their home in Oklahoma City. He was a licensed minister through Church of God. He and his second wife traveled helping conduct camp meetings. He is survived by his three sons, Linnard Amore of Clover, S.C., Richard and wife, Marie Amore, of Hayfolk, Calif., and Everett and wife, Linda, of Elgin, Okla.; one daughter, Kathy and Jeff Nelson of Oklahoma City; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wives, two sons, one daughter and one granddaughter. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at John M. Ireland Funeral Home Chapel, 120 South Broadway, Moore, Okla., where services will begin 11 a.m. with the Rev. Leon McDowell officiating.
