HODGDON – Mary M. (McLaughlin) McGillicuddy, 84, passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, surrounded by her loving family at a local hospital. Mary was born May 13, 1925, in Littleton, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (McAdam) McLaughlin. She grew up on a potato farm in Littleton with five sisters and three brothers. During her high school years, she worked at Woolworth’s department store. Mary graduated from Houlton High School and had clerical positions at Houlton Air Base and at a local insurance company. On June 21, 1947, she married Donald McGillicuddy and they spent 56 loving years farming together. Mary and Don enjoyed time spent at their special place, Deering Lake, with family and friends. Mary was predeceased by Don, Dec. 26, 2002. Mary is survived by her children, Charles and Donna McGillicuddy of Houlton, James McGillicuddy of Hodgdon, Joseph and Mary McGillicuddy of Houlton, Edward and Mary McGillicuddy of Houlton, Anne and Brent Brewer of Alstead, N.H., and Katherine and Randall Russell of Linneus. She is also survived by grandchildren, Melissa and Eric Brewer, Elizabeth and Kaitlin Russell, Alyson, Sarah, Lauren and Joshua McGillicuddy. Mary’s grandchildren possessed a special place in her heart. She celebrated countless birthdays and holidays with them and was nearby for all their births. Mary is also survived by her caring sisters, Joyce and John Sanders of Enfield, Conn., and Patricia Koepp of San Diego. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom brought pride and happiness into Mary’s life. Additionally, Mary is survived by sister-in-law, Therese McLaughlin; and brothers-in-law, Charles Boyd and Clifford McQuarrie. Mary was predeceased by sisters, Joan Fitzpatrick, Helen McQuarrie and Rita Boyd; and brothers, Thomas, Charles and Harold McLaughlin. Friends may call 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Visitation Church, 110 Military St., Houlton, with the Rev. David Raymond and the Rev. Roger Cyr, celebrants. Interment will be at Saint Mary’s Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon in the parish center afterwards.
