ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Richard D. Watson, 83, died Oct. 25, 2009, in St. Augustine, Fla. He was born in Bangor, son of the late Harry D. and Ruth Jameson Watson, and grew up in Orono. He graduated from Orono High School and then attended Maine Maritime Academy. Upon graduation from the academy, he served in both the Merchant Marine and the U.S. Navy. In 1949 he married Margaret Sutton, also of Orono, and was happily married for 53 years. Richard was a 1950 graduate of the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for Westinghouse, J.W. Greer Co., Wilmington, Mass., and founded and was president of Industrial Process Equipment, Inc., Wakefield, Mass. He went on to work for and was a principal stockholder of FES, Inc., York, Pa. He had a lifetime interest in all types of sports and was an avid golfer being a member of Falmouth Country Club, Falmouth, and The Club at Pelican Bay, Naples, Fla. Mr. Watson is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Conlee and her husband, Kim, of St. Augustine, Fla., and Martha Deane and her husband, Peter, of Winslow; and two sons, David Watson and his wife, Joan, of Niskayuna, N.Y., and James Watson and his wife, Suzanne, of Landisville, Pa.; and eight grandchildren. Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Church of Universal Fellowship, 82 Main St., Orono. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harry D.
