BLACK RIVER, N.Y. – Dr. Frank E. Harvey, 51, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, N.Y., where he had been a patient since Oct. 24. Born Dec. 3, 1957, in Bangor, he was the son of Francis S. and Shirley M. Bragan Harvey. He graduated from Central High School, East Corinth. Dr. Harvey received his Bachelor of Arts in zoology with honors at the University of Maine, Orono; medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston; and completed his family practice residency at Womack Army Hospital, Fort Bragg, N.C. He was chief resident in 1987. He married Arlene Dunham, Nov. 7, 1979, at United Methodist Church, East Corinth. Dr. Harvey entered the U.S. Army in 1980. He was a medical corps officer, achieving the rank of major in the U.S. Army, 1987-1991; serving as staff physician at Fort Drum, N.Y., and was medical director of the eight bed holding unit. He served in the Army Reserve until 2009; was medical director for Carthage Area Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit from 1991 until the time of his death; medical director of Genesis Healthcare Urgent Care Center, Watertown, N.Y., 1997-1999; and co-founder, owner and partner in Family Practice Associates, P.C., Watertown, N.Y., and Carthage, N.Y. He was a certified medical review officer and corporate vice president and treasurer. Dr. Harvey received honors from Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society in 1978, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society in 1979, Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society in 1979, Outstanding Family Practice Resident in 1987 and an Army Commendation Medal in 1991. Society memberships include AAFP, AMA, Medical Society of the State of NY, NY Academy of Family Practice, Jefferson County Medical Society, Jefferson Physician Organization, Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity and American Association of Medical Review Officers. He held certifications with the National Board of Medical Examiners since 1984, and American Board of Family Practice, 2000-2007; was a fellow with American Academy of Family Practice, conferred in 1999, current in Basic Life Support, ACLS instructor, Advanced Neonatal Life Support and American Association of Medical Review officers. Affiliations include Carthage Area Hospital, 1988 until the time of his death; Genesis Healthcare, Watertown, N.Y., 1988-1999; SUNY Health Science Center, Department of Family Practice, Syracuse, N.Y., 1989 until the time of his death; and Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, N.Y., 1987-1991. Other memberships include Kenduskeag Lodge No. 137, Scottish Rite Valley of Bangor and Portland Consistory, Maine Grange as a fifth degree member in Garland, and he was a member of Kenduskeag Union Church. He enjoyed traveling with his family, golfing, spending time with his granddaughter, Ava, and working in his yard. Survivors include his wife, Arlene; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lindsey Harvey, Carthage, N.Y., and Carlie and Travis Wright of Black River, N.Y.; his parents, Francis and Shirley Harvey of Kenduskeag; his granddaughter, Ava Elizabeth Wright of Black River, N.Y.; a sister and her husband, Frannie and Gary Currier of Kenduskeag; a brother, Stewart Harvey of Kenduskeag; a brother-in-law and his wife, Ronald and Amanda Dunham of Corinth; two nieces, Nichole Harvey-Currier of Kenduskeag and Jessica Dunham Day of Charleston; two nephews, Kamenie Currier of Kenduskeag and Derek Dunham of Corinth; and other dear family and friends. Beloved in-laws, Eugene and Hazel Dunham died before him. Frank was a beloved husband, son, brother, and loving father and papa. Calling hours are noon-3 p.m. Saturday at Frederick Bros.
