ST. ALBANS – Arthur “Art” M. Tyler Jr., 75, died Nov. 7, 2009, at his home. He was born Jan. 7, 1934, in Veazie, son of Arthur and Florence (Avery) Tyler; and was raised in Dexter by his grandparents, Fred and Eva Avery. He served for four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and then served for 21 years in the U.S. Army. After retiring from the Army, Art worked for several years in Colorado as a security guard. After moving back to Maine, he was very active in St. Albans Fire Department and St. Albans Grange, and was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (MacDonald) Tyler of St. Albans; a son, Clyde Tyler of Colorado; two brothers, Frederick Tyler and his wife, Virginia, of Cambridge, and Reginald Tyler and his wife, Margie, of Brooks; three half brothers, Gary Tyler of Florida, Fred Tyler and his wife, Alice, of North Carolina, and William Tyler of Florida; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Marie; and a son, Arthur III. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport, with Pastor Greg Arnold officiating, where friends may call noon until the time of service. Burial with military honors will be at St. Albans Village Cemetery after the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Albans Fire Department in his memory.
