BREWER – John M. Simpson, 70, died Nov. 8, 2009, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born July 20, 1939, in Bangor, the son of Manley and Laura (Herrick) Simpson. John was a graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1959. He dedicated his life to community service through many organizations including, Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce, Lygonia Lodge No. 40 AF & AM, Ellsworth, and Anah Shriners, Bangor, where most recently he served on the directors staff, and many others. He loved spending time with his family and enjoying the outdoors hunting and fishing with his friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Lois (Staples) Simpson of Brewer; two daughters and their husbands, Lynn and Bruce Goodin of Bucksport, and Kelley and Bill McConnell Jr. of Denver; two sisters, Nancy White of Alabama and Jane Hausman of Virginia; five special grandchildren, Monique, Jonathan, Joseph, Tessa, Shelby; many special nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service at Brookings-Smith Family Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer.
