OLD TOWN – Alice M. (Young) Wickett, 92, of West Old Town, went home to be with the Lord, Nov. 9, 2009, at her home. She was born Dec. 21, 1916, in West Old Town, the daughter of Burton F. and Eliza A. (Webb) Young. She was married to the late Linwood A. Wickett. Alice worked as a stitcher for many years at Old Town Shoe Co. until her retirement at age 62. During her employment and after retirement, she enjoyed working with Linwood on their farm, caring for cattle, working their gardens, and making maple syrup. They traveled many times to New Hampshire and loved to ride the trains, especially Mount Washington Cog Railway, which they rode again in August 2006. They were members of Charleston Pentecostal Church for many years. For the past few years they attended LaGrange Full Gospel Assembly, pastored by their nephew, Edward Costain. Alice was predeceased by her loving husband of 73 years, Linwood A. Wickett, in February 2007; her parents; her brothers and sister, William Weatherbee, Joseph Weatherbee, Raymond Weatherbee, Kenneth Young, Harold Young, and Ida (Young) Tibbetts. She is survived by her three children, Diane B., wife of the late Frank Dale Bertrand, of Aiken, S.C., Arthur W. and his wife, Louise Wickett, of West Old Town, and Linwood B. and his wife, Nancy Wickett, of Stratham, N.H.; six grandchildren, Deborah (Bertrand) and her husband, Joseph Camp, of Spartanburg, S.C., Denise (Bertrand) and her husband, Robert Johnston, of St. Marys, Ga., Danielle (Bertrand) and her husband, Michael Hoffstatter, of North Augusta, S.C., Stephen Wickett and special friend, Janet Kemberling, of Brunswick, Mark Wickett and special friend, Vickey Willey, of West Old Town, Stephen and Mark’s mother, Beverly Clark, of Bangor, Craig Wickett and wife, Heidi and Craig’s mother, Marilyn Harlow, of Sacramento, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was survived by and predeceased by several nieces and nephews. By Alice’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at LaGrange Full Gospel Assembly, 4895 Bennoch Road, Route 16. There will be a fellowship gathering immediately after the funeral at the church. Alice will be laid to rest at West Old Town Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town.
