HERMON – Donald F. Gary, 72, died Nov. 9, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 8, 1936, in Bangor, son of Luther and Avis (Dodwell) Gary. Don was a Bangor firefighter for 20 years, retiring in 1983. After his retirement, he was manager of the small engine repair shop at Brewer Agway. Don enjoyed his gardens, snowmobiling, kayaking, tinkering in his garage and most of all, his golden lab Hannah. Surviving are his wife, Gail E. Gary of Hermon; a daughter, Devon Gary of Pennsylvania; a stepson, Brett Scanlan of North Carolina; a stepdaughter, Dana O’Connor of Virginia; three stepgrandchildren, Rowan, Bryce and Gwen; one brother, Earl Gary of Bangor; two sisters, Eleanor Willey of Hampden and Betty Greene of Florida; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Luther Gary Jr.; one sister, Avis Legassie; and his golden lab Hannah, who was his best friend. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Douglas McCumber, presiding.
