BANGOR – Kenneth “Ken” P. Scripture, 86, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009. He was the son of Alfred W. Scripture Sr. and Margaret (Mackay) Scripture. Ken graduated from Bangor High School and went to work at Dow Air Force Base. He was inducted in the U.S. Army in April 1943. Ken was awarded a Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for wounds he received as a result of enemy action in France in November 1944, while attached to the 80th Infantry Division. After the military, he went to work for Bangor Fire Department, retiring in 1973 and then worked for a number of years at Bangor Public Library. He was a member of Rising Virtue Lodge No. 10 AF & AM, Bangor, for more than 50 years and Anah Shrine. He was also a lifetime member of Bangor Elks Club. Ken enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time with family. He could be found most mornings having coffee at McDonald’s with his brothers and close friends. Ken will be fondly remembered for his quick wit and keen sense of humor. He is survived by three siblings, Donald A. Scripture and James E. Scripture Sr. of Bangor and Marion F. Giberson of Bath, New Brunswick; dear friend, Muriel Boylan; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three siblings, Alice E. Bell of Bangor, Janet D. Sweet of Blissfield, Mich., and Alfred W. Scripture Jr. of Bangor. A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Maple Grove Cemetery, Bangor.
