CARIBOU – Garth O. Getchell, 81, died Nov. 13, 2009, in Presque Isle. He was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Limestone, the son of D. Emery and Tina (Finnemore) Getchell. He married Phyllis Shaw, Sept. 4, 1948. Garth was a self-employed farmer in the Caribou area for 20 years. He then he worked for the City of Caribou Highway Department for 25 years, retiring as supervisor in 1993. Surviving in addition to his wife of more than 61 years, Phyllis Getchell of Presque Isle, are two daughters, Mary Beaulieu of Presque Isle and Patricia Peterson and her husband, Michael, of Elgin, Ill.; his “adoptive daughter,” Judy Belanger of Presque Isle; his brother and sister-in-law, Frederick and Charlotte Getchell of Lady Lake, Fla.; his grandchildren, Rick Beaulieu of Vancouver, Wash., Scott Beaulieu of Beaverton, Ore., and Randy Beaulieu of Presque Isle; a sister-in-law, Jackie Shaw of Caribou; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, John Shaw and his children, Andrew, Timmy and Christina; and special nieces, Janice Pinette and her husband, Mark and their children, Ben and Carlee, and Joyce Findlen and her husband, Scott and their children, Caleb and Austin. Mr. Getchell was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Jack Shaw; a son-in-law, Clifford Beaulieu; and a brother, Perry. A memorial service will be announced at a late date by Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou.
