GARLAND – Gerald E. Turner, 87, the husband of Florence (Strout) Turner, died Nov. 17, 2009, in Dover-Foxcroft, after a long illness. He was born April 1, 1922, in Charleston, the son of Elroy and Lena (Porter) Turner. In his earlier years, he had worked as a potato and dairy farmer, was later employed in Corinth and Old Town shoe shops for several years, after which, he and his wife hand crafted bird houses and other novelties which were sold across the country. In addition to his wife of Garland, he is survived by five sons, Eugene Turner and his wife, Sheila, of LaGrange, Carl Turner and Jackie of Rochester, N.H., Elwin Turner and Joyce of Vassalboro, Wayne Turner and Margie of St. George, N.Y., and Earl Turner of West Virginia; a daughter, Linda Crawford and her husband, Tom, of Garland; 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, with Pastor Richard Berry officiating.
