CLINTON, Conn. – Edith (Carter) Welles, 83, passed away Nov. 18, 2009, at Saybrook Health Care. Born April 16, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Lillian (Martin) Carter. She had resided in Clinton, Conn., for many years and graduated from Sullivan High School, Sullivan. Edith was a member of First Congregational Church, Clinton, Conn. She is survived by her three daughters, Judith Miller and her husband, Caryl, of Ocala, Fla., Kathryn Webber and her husband, Glenwood, of Garland and Diane Wilson of Clinton, Conn.; her son, Philip White and his wife, Marilyn, of Clinton, Conn.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Emma Dow of Hallowell; and her brother, Milton Carter and his wife, Mary, of Sullivan. She was predeceased by her brothers, Elmer Carter Jr., Augustin Carter and Lawrence Carter; and by her grandson, Bruce Waterman. Family and friends are invited for funeral services 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Swan Funeral Home, 80 East Main St., Clinton, Conn. Burial will be afterward at Indian River Cemetery.
