PRESQUE ISLE – Eugene Charles Evans, 79, passed away Nov. 17, 2009, at his residence. He was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Everett, Mass. Gene served 27 years in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic before retiring as a master sergeant. During his time in the military, he served one tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam, and also was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked 14 years for Northrop Grumman at Loring Air Force Base as a civilian aircraft mechanic. Gene married Margaret Deschaine, April 11, 1978, and they shared 31 happy years. He loved to hunt and fish, enjoyed the peace of the outdoors and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He also loved to bowl ten-pin and watch mystery movies. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Anne Evans of Presque Isle; his adoptive family, Jeffery Kenneson and Lori Kenneson and their son, Adam Kenneson, all of Presque Isle; as well as their daughter, Kristina and her husband, Issac Braley, of Chapman. Gene is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Buchanan; his nephew, Shawn Buchanan and his girlfriend, Annie Kearby, all of Bessemer, Ala.; and a special dog, Jakie. Interment will be at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Caribou. Friends are welcome for a time of remembrance and refreshments 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at the home of his wife, Margaret, 30 Dragon Drive, Presque Isle.
