BIDDEFORD – Sister Nora Hebert, 92, formerly known as Sister St. Theresia, died Nov. 19, 2009, at St. Joseph Convent. Sister Nora was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Guerette, the 11th child in a family of 13 children, born to Frank Hebert and Agnes Gagnon. She attended elementary school in Madawaska and Sacred Heart High School, Van Buren. After graduation she entered Congregation of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, also known as Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec, Biddeford, in August 1935. After her initial training in religious life, Sister Nora spent a year at Scholasticate at the Mother House, Quebec. She earned her Bachelor or Arts degree in education from Cardinal Cushing College, Brookline, Mass. Her teaching career of more than 25 years in elementary and high school education took her to Caribou; Hamlin; Van Buren; Grand Isle; Old Town; Biddeford; St. Ann School, Lawrence, Mass.; and Mont Carmel School, Methuen, Mass. In Old Town she was superior/bookkeeper and principal of St. Joseph School, director of the catechetical and pastoral programs in the parish. When Sister Nora retired from teaching, she became director of the infirmary at St. Joseph Convent, where she provided for the material and spiritual needs of the sick sisters. Because of illness she had to resign from her position in 1999. However she continued to radiate joy by her humorous and sunny disposition. Sister Nora is survived by several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are 6-8 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Convent, where a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford.
