PRESQUE ISLE and FORT FAIRFIELD – Robert G. Perry, 80, husband of Inez M. (Giggie) Perry, passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 21, 2009, at a Caribou nursing facility, after a brief illness. He was born March 1, 1929, in Burlington, N.J., son of John Sr. and Hannah (Sprague) Perry. He attended Bridgeboro (N.J.) schools and at age 17 enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served during the Korean War, and had been stationed in various locations, including Loring Air Force Base, Limestone. Robert retired from the Air Force in 1972 with the rank of senior master sergeant, having served his country for more than 25 years. He was married to Inez Giggie, Feb. 22, 1963, and after his military career, was self-employed as a carpenter. Robert was a resident of Fort Fairfield for 19 years prior to moving to Presque Isle, in 2004. Mr. Perry was a proud, dedicated member of Fort Fairfield Veterans’ of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, a member of Bangor Chapter of the Korean War Veterans,’ and a past member of Fort Fairfield Fish and Game Club. Robert enjoyed fishing and the VFW, and possessed a deep love and appreciation for the U.S. Flag. He will be remembered by his family as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by three brothers, John Jr., William and Lester; and two sisters, Ruth and Rene. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Inez M. Perry of Presque Isle; one son, Chris Perry of Atlantic City, N.J.; four daughters, Debbie Smith and Michelle Karns, both of Washington state, Lisa Perry and her companion, Jeff Hafford, and Linda Perry and her companion, Gary Madore, all of Fort Fairfield; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Interment with military honors will take place at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Caribou. A time of continued fellowship refreshments will be held immediately after the interment service at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6181, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
