GREENVILLE – Helene C. Aucoin, 85, died Nov. 22, 2009, at C.A. Dean Nursing Home, after a prolonged period of declining health. She was born Feb. 26, 1924, in Greenville, the third of six children to Francis and Barbara (Yeaton) Conley. Helene was a lifelong resident of Greenville and graduated from Greenville High School in 1941. She had planned to attend nursing school, but her mother passed away during her senior year, so she gave up her career plans to remain at home and raise her three younger sisters. During the war years, she tended to her family responsibilities while writing every day to her high school sweetheart, Raymond Aucoin, who was serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. Upon his return from the war, they were married and raised six children of their own. In 1972 she began her 20 years employment with the U.S. Postal Service; she worked in the Rockwood, Greenville Junction and Greenville post offices. Throughout her life she was always active in community affairs, through her church, at the school, at the hospital and as a member of many civic-minded organizations. She was a devoted lifelong communicant of Holy Family Catholic Church; however her greatest love and devotion were reserved for her family – her beloved husband, Raymond, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her sisters, brothers, her in-laws and entire extended family. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Raymond in 2008; her son, Greg in 2000; her brother, Gene Conley; and sister, Alice Hagopian. She is survived by five children, James of Bangor, Barbara Crossman and her husband, John, of Milo, Terrence and his wife, Denise, of Greenville, Michael of Portland and Charles and his wife, Jennifer, of Greenville; brother, William of Rochester, N.H.; two sisters, Rita Hirsch and her husband, Carl, of Weston, Mass., and Kathleen Conley of Greenville; a daughter-in-law, Leanna Aucoin of Greenville; 12 grandchildren, Alissa, Aaron, Gregory, David, Keith, Ryan, Thomas, Rance, Diane, Kahla, Cole and Charlotte; five great-grandchildren, Evan, Alexa, Dakota, Fallon and Liam; five sisters-in-law, Priscilla Conley of Brewer, Rita Johnson of Manchester, N.J., Geneva Ainaire of Bangor, Elaine McDonough and her husband, James, of Auburn and Theresa Davis and her husband, Hugh, of Shirley; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Her family thanks the staff of C.A. Dean Nursing Home for their caring professionalism and kind attention throughout the last five and a half years. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Richard Malo officiating. Burial will be at Greenville Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the Mass in the church community room. Those who wish to contribute in Helene’s memory may do so to C.A.
