SPRINGFIELD – Beryl A. Downs, 87, wife of the late Clifford A. Downs, passed away Nov. 25, 2009, at Colonial Healthcare Facility, Lincoln. She was born Aug. 19, 1922, in Prentiss, the daughter of Nat and Madge (Smith) Thompson. Beryl loved being a stay at home wife and a loving mom. She loved and took pride in her clean house and awesome cooking. When her husband, Cliff, became ill, she turned into the best nurse in the world and cared for him until the end. She always put herself last, and made sure everyone else was cared for first. She will always be remembered for being the loving, caring wife, mother and friend that she was to all. She is survived by a son, Jerry Downs and wife, Susan, of Brookton; two sisters, Pauline Drake of Springfield and Gloria Becklund of Florida; six grandchildren, Kent Worcester of Topsfield, Crystal Jones of Arizona, Janel Worcester of Brewer, Jeff Downs of Virginia, Jami Downs of Portland and Julie Downs of Brookton; one dozen great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; one dear sister-in-law, Delight Tolman of Mattawamkeag; a beloved friend for many years, Ken Buck of Connecticut. In addition to her husband, Clifford, she was predeceased by her daughter, Christine; two brothers, Sterling Thompson and Fernald Thompson; and two sisters, Marguerite Thornton and Marie Irish. At Beryl’s request, there will be no viewing. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at Springfield Village Cemetery, with the Rev Thomas Smith officiating.
