BANGOR – Essie Lee Tracy, 87, passed away peacefully Nov. 23, 2009, at a Bangor health care center. She was born Dec. 17, 1921, in Atlanta, the daughter of Burry and Nora (Collier) Peavy. Essie, a caring and devoted mother, worked in Bangor area shoe factories, providing for her family much of her life. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, and had a passion for fishing. She spent her final years at Eastside Rehabilitation and Living Center, receiving love and care from family and staff. She is survived by her loving children, Nora Lee Gilks and her husband, Bruce, of Hermon, Donald Robert Tracy Jr. and wife, Becky, of Carmel, Harriet Faye Valenzano and husband, Richard, of New Jersey and Karen Yvonne Greenacre and husband, David, of Sidney; sister, Annette Knox and husband, Whit, of Georgia; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Donald Robert Tracy Sr.; and 10 of her brothers and sisters. Private graveside services will be held in the spring at Highland Cemetery, Carmel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Eastside Rehabilitation and Living Center, care of Paula Eaton, Activities Director, 516 Mount Hope Ave., Bangor.
