DETROIT – Roscoe A. Hicks Sr., 84, died Nov. 24, 2009, at the Togus VA Medical Center after a long illness. He was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Plymouth, son of George and Ethel (Welch) Hicks. He attended schools in Plymouth and was a graduate of Newport High School. Roscoe also attended Husson Business College, now Husson University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a rifleman in the Rhineland Campaign. He was married to Lorraine (Charity) Hicks, who died February 1980. He was employed at Dexter Shoe, Dexter, as a hand sewer for many years and at other local shoe shops. Roscoe was a member of the Veterans’ of Foreign Wars, Pittsfield, and Pittsfield American Legion Post. He was a charter member of Night Drifters Snowmobile Club that was formed in 1973 at his home in Detroit. He was a charter member of Elks Lodge, Pittsfield, a former Boy Scout leader and he loved to bowl; he was very active in several bowling leagues. Roscoe is survived by his son and his wife, Roscoe A. Hicks Jr. and Bobbie of Detroit; his daughter and her husband, Linda and Brian Fletcher of Troy; four grandchildren, Amber and her husband, Justin Reynolds, Justin Fletcher and his companion, Jennie Plumbstead and her son, Jeremy, Reece Hicks and Riley Hicks; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Roth Hicks; one sister and three brothers, Melva, Elwell, Rodney and Albert. Graveside services with military honors will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Detroit Village Cemetery with the Rev. Liz Sullivan officiating. A reception will be afterward at Night Drifters Snowmobile Club, Route 220, Detroit.
