FRENCHVILLE and ST. DAVID – Urbey Cyr, 89, died peacefully Dec. 3, 2009, at a Frenchville health care facility, where he resided since 2003. He was born Sept. 5, 1920, in St. David, the son of Pierre H. and Leona (Daigle) Cyr. Urbey was enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1937 to 1940. He was an active member of the U.S. Air Force during World War II, as well as a member of American Legion Post 147 of Madawaska for the past 61 years. Urbey worked as a starchman for Fraser Papers for 38 years, retiring in 1979. He was also a past member of Knights of Columbus and League of the Sacred Heart. Urbey was well known for his passion of gardening and the outdoors. He continued growing vegetables even after living at St. Joseph’s nursing home. Urbey is survived by his children, Anne Beatrice Deschaine and her husband, Real, of St. David, Jane Cyr and her partner, Lewis Plourde, of St. Agatha, Danny G. Cyr of St. David, James A. Cyr and his wife, Judy, of St. David, and Lucy Cote and her husband, Andrew, of Juniper, New Brunswick; daughter-in-law, Theresa Cyr of Portland; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie Cyr, Wayne Cyr, Danielle “DeeDee” Cyr, Angel Deschaine, Kendra Deschaine, Jason Cyr, Liza Winters, Danny “DJ” Cyr Jr., Dennis Cyr, Dana Cyr, Dean Cote and Chantal Cote; 10 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Emelia, Tyson, Keira, Kenzi, JJ, Wyatt, Mason, Spencer and Lauren; several stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren; and two sisters, Lucienne Pare of Augusta and Jeannine Parent of Connecticut. Urbey was predeceased by his loving wife in March 2009; by a son, Urbey Cyr Jr.; his brothers, Omer, Nolan, Lucien, Udo and Joel; and by his sister, Anita. He will be missed by many, especially the nursing staff whom he loved dearly. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. David Church. Friends and family may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. until time of the service Saturday at Daigle Funeral Home. Spring interment will be in the parish cemetery.
