NEWPORT and CORINNA – Kenneth R. Emerson, 83, died Nov. 30, 2009, surrounded by his family at his Newport residence after a short illness. He was born Sept. 8, 1926, in Stetson, a son of James A. and Zelda A. (Sweet) Emerson. Ken attended Corinna Union Academy leaving halfway through his senior year to serve his country in the 82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army. Because of the call of duty, he didn’t receive his high school diploma until June, presented by his daughter, Terrie Lee, with the graduating Class of 2009 at Nokomis Regional High. After serving his country, he owned and operated a service station in Corinna for a number of years. He then drove truck for Eastland Woolen Mill and later for Lyle Pierce, Inc. with the citizens band radio handle, “Deputy Dog.” In 1971 he graduated from Maine Criminal Justice Academy, Augusta, and was a Penobscot deputy sheriff until his retirement in 1996. During this time, he also leased Newport Golf Course, Old Newport Road. He was a member of Corinna American Legion and a 25-year member of Corinna Fire Department. Ken and Charlene also enjoyed the winter months at their residence in Zephyrhills, Fla., enjoying special times with friends and family. Dad loved to play golf. It was his lifelong hobby. He had shelves of trophies, including five holes-in-one! He was a man of few words but wouldn’t miss an opportunity to crack a joke or play a prank. He especially loved to tease his grandchildren. They lovingly named him “The Ole Buzzard.” We love and greatly miss him, but we draw strength and comfort knowing that he is now with his heavenly Father. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Charlene (Buck) Emerson of Newport; daughter, Terrie Lee (Emerson) Murray and husband, James “Butch,” granddaughter, Shana and husband Alton Anderson, great-granddaughter, Lauryn, great-grandson, Aidan, of Corinna, and granddaughter, Michelle and husband, Justin Paradis, of Corinna; son, Allen Lee Emerson, grandson, Brandon, of Sangerville, and grandson, Kyle, of Dexter; son, James P.
