MILLINOCKET – Margaret Jeannette (Campbell) Evers, a lifelong resident of Millinocket, was embraced by her Lord Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009. She was peacefully reunited with her husband, John P. Evers; and their son, James Edward. Margaret was born Nov. 25, 1920, in Millinocket, the daughter of Rufus Campbell and Margaret J. (Crandall) Campbell. Margaret graduated from Stearns High School in 1940 and Augusta General Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. Margaret worked as a registered nurse doing private nursing care and worked at Millinocket Regional Hospital; her most enjoyable job was in the obstetrics department there, as she loved to be around children. Margaret was a nurse for the Millinocket school system and taught a certified nurse’s aide course at Stearns High School. She spent many years volunteering her nursing services for clinics offered in the community and worked as a volunteer at Katahdin Nursing Home. She was an active member of Millinocket First Baptist Church. Margaret was an active member of Stearns Alumni Association for many years as well as a member of Region Three Vocational Board. She was also one of the founding members of Katahdin Area Support Group. A great joy in Margaret’s life was spending time with children and watching them grow. “Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.” Matthew 18:4-5. Margaret was predeceased by her brother, Edward Campbell; and three sisters, Ida Davis, Lucille Taylor and Ruth Virginia “Ginna” Campbell. She is survived by her sister, Geneva Hanksterfer and husband, Charles, of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Helen Burrell of Westbrook; as well as her daughter and family, Janis and husband, Michael Whitcomb, of Monroe and their sons and families, Michael Wayne and Jenn Whitcomb with their son, Michael John “M.J.” and Samuel, of Monroe, and Matthew and Starlyn Whitcomb of Knox, and her daughter, Donna and husband, John Farrington, of Medway and their family, Paul and Mandy Farrington with their children, Marrinna, John, Makayla, Joshua and Isabella, of Springfield, and Meredith and Keith Kelly with their children, Abigail and Connor, of Medway. She is also survived by many well-loved nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2:30-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket.
