AUBURN, Ga., and PRESQUE ISLE – Richard Eugene “Dick” Currier, 72, passed quietly Dec. 3, 2009, in the company of his family at his home in Auburn, Ga. Dick succumbed after a difficult struggle with colon cancer. He was born Aug. 13, 1937, the third child of Maurice and Theda (Smith) Currier. Dick was raised in Castle Hill and lived for most of his life in Presque Isle. Dick and Eska A. (Tingley) Currier married Nov. 5, 1954, and enjoyed 55 years together. Dick was employed at a young age and worked all his life. He worked at M.P.G. Dairy for 25 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his chums, Harold Davenport and Jake Beaulier. Dick liked to bowl with his buddies from the dairy, Tony Sullivan, Dick and Jack Allen, and his lifelong friend, Charlie Brown. Dick was a member of Presque Isle Elks Lodge. He died much as he had lived his life, in a quiet, dignified and humble manner surrounded by those who meant everything to him – his family. Dick often remarked how blessed he was to have a family who brought him much joy and great happiness. Although Dick made his home in Georgia, his heart was never far from Aroostook County, a place he dearly loved. Dick is survived by Eska A. Currier and their children, Richard “Rick” Currier and his wife, Susan, of Presque Isle, David Currier of Auburn, Ga., Debora (Currier) Estey and her husband, Doug, of Loganville, Ga., Patti Beth (Currier) Duffy and her husband, Patrick, of Charlotte, N.C., and Brian Currier and his wife, Susan, of Auburn, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Amy Lynn, Steven, Dustyn, Ryan, Jessica, Bradley, Madalyn and Melissa; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Amelie; several nieces and nephews; and two special aunts, Lillian Smith and Fredie Young. Dick was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Dwynal Currier; and his sister, Thirza “Teddy” Martin. Interment will be in the spring on the bank of Aroostook River at Washburn Memorial Cemetery, close by where he was raised and near the place he married his wife of 55 years.
