SULLIVAN and PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Thomas R. Whitmer, 76, passed away Dec. 3, 2009. He was born Aug. 23, 1933, in Chicago, to Walter and Nellie (Lorentsen) Whitmer. At a young age, his family moved to Maine, where he lived most of his life. He attended Good Will School, Hinckley, and graduated from Morse High School, Bath, and the University of Maine at Portland. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army. His career was a salesman and contractor in industrial chemical cleaning. Tom’s talents and passions were enormous. He did not meet his desire to live to be 100 years old, but he put 100 years of life in to his 76. He was loved and will be missed by his wife, Lynn; his brother, John Whitmer of Selinsgrove, Pa.; five children, Valerie and Bob Whitmer-Hammond of Bunkers Harbor, Julie and Art Willey of Millinocket, Nancy and Steve Norris of Orrington, John and Laura Whitmer of Portland, and Christine Whitmer of East Millinocket; a stepson, Ron Vachon of Orrington; four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Alan Whitmer; his son, Tommy Whitmer; and a stepson, Todd Vachon. A celebration of life date will be announced in the spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Salvation Army or a local animal shelter of your choice.
